IRISH DANCE BASICS
Irish dancers keep their bodies very straight throughout the dance
Knees and Legs Straight
Irish dance is very linear and there are not a lot of bends and lunges. The overall goal is to keep a very straight and upright look.
Steps and kicks are all done with a pointed toe and a nice arch to the foot.
Arms Pinned Down at Sides
Perhaps the most iconic part of Irish dance is that the arms are kept straight at the sides and virtually unused for most dances.
Legs Crossed Over
Legs are crossed during steps and kicks, instead of side by side.
Up On Toes
Get on up there! The entire dance is performed while on your tippy toes.
Irish Dance is a worldwide phenomenon, both exciting and intricate. More people than ever are discovering the joy of this beautiful cultural dance. We invite you to join us!
