IRISH DANCE BASICS
-
Straight Posture
Irish dancers keep their bodies very straight throughout the dance
-
Knees and Legs Straight
Irish dance is very linear and there are not a lot of bends and lunges. The overall goal is to keep a very straight and upright look.
-
Toes Pointed
Steps and kicks are all done with a pointed toe and a nice arch to the foot.

-
Arms Down at Sides
Perhaps the most iconic part of Irish dance is that the arms are generally kept straight at the sides for many dances.
-
Legs Crossed Over
Legs are crossed during steps and kicks, instead of side by side.
-
Up On Toes
Get on up there! The entire dance is performed while on your tippy toes.
